Nearly a year ago I came across a beautiful caftan dress on social media and clicked around until I found the designer, La Vie Style House. Turns out, La Vie was created by a friend of the family, and a girl I went to high school with, Lindsey. (Her sister is also a designer and was featured here on venzedits back in 2015 – Lisa Moore of Cover Swim!)
Lindsay was always well-dressed in high school (we had math together my sophomore year), so I’m not at all surprised that she ended up at the design table making really special pieces.
I’m going to spare you more text so we can get to the point- I’m obsessed with these dresses.
I wore this short one to Christmas parties.
I STALKED this heart dress (even made Lindsey make more:)) so my new SIL could wear it to the surprise engagement party I threw her.
And I am loving this new star dress!
What was the inspiration behind La Vie Style House?
We are both obsessed with vintage caftans, but we couldn’t find the perfect fit! We started researching and found a void in the market for unique, cool and easy caftans that would transition from day to night. And La Vie Style House was born!
How did you all get started?
We started collecting vintage fabrics about 10 years ago and making caftans for ourselves. Our friends asked us to make them as well. Soon after a website was launched then came trunk shows. One of our friends, Amy Berry, wore a caftan to a party in the Hamptons and Marina Larroude, the Fashion Director of Barneys, approached her to learn who made the dress! A mere six weeks later, the caftans were in the Madison Ave store and on Barneys.com.
What is your favorite part about what you do?
Having the opportunity to create and being inspired by beautiful things around us. Fabric selection is so fun and we always gravitate to vintage, avant-garde ones with bright colors and patterns. Seeing someone put on our dresses and feel amazing is the reason we design!
Do you all have a favorite style/color? If so, what is it?
Coulter- I’m obsessed with the black star lace right now. I love the weight of it for these hot summer days.
McClain- I am loving the short neon brocade kimonos! The yellow is so fun and vibrant! It’s my go to summer staple paired with sneakers!
What can we expect in the future?
We have a few new styles in the works. We’re looking to introduce other caftan styles, being inspired by chic 1960s glam. In addition to this, we have a menswear style in the works.
