When I first launched my blog in 2010, I had a weekly series called “Girl of the Moment,” or “GOTM” for those of you who are long-time readers. These posts would feature women who were doing important things that I wanted to draw attention to. Nine years later, “GOTM” has evolved into “Friendly Friday”. Same concept – new name.
Every year I dedicate 24 hours to mentoring entrepreneurs and Maggie, the founder of CuffedUp, recently reached out to talk shop.
Maggie was recently featured on Good Morning Texas, one of the top viewed morning shows in the US, as she created a product that solves a problem for a lot of people: a tool that keeps your shirt and jacket sleeves cuffed up and in place, all day.
A few months ago, I was in Madewell in San Francisco and there was a stylist in the dressing room. I asked her to help me style a few pieces that I grabbed off the shelf and she pulled out a rubber band and stuck it on the sleeve of my sweater and then pushed the sleeve up above my elbow; the rubber band held it in place. To be honest, I have treated that rubber band like a piece of gold because the sweater (runs big, order a size down) looks way better with the sleeves styled the way she suggested and I needed that rubber band.
I remember my mom having some gold springy bangle-like tool for her sleeves in the early 90s and so I immediately understood the opportunity when Maggie told me about CuffedUp.
I’m excited to introduce you to this driven, hard-working female entrepreneur!
What three words would you use to describe CuffedUp and why did you choose these?

Versatile: You can use CuffedUp on shirts of any fabric, sweaters, jackets, even pants! CuffedUp can transform shirts into a totally different look. You can turn a bell sleeve into a fitted sleeve for work, then put your Cuff Rolls into your purse and transform back to a bell sleeve for happy hour!

What was the inspiration behind your brand?
My closet! I’ve always loved fashion and experimenting with new styles, but I was never able to get my sleeves to look good & stay that way. And there was nothing on the market that fixed this problem. I think that as women, designers expect us to sacrifice functionality for style. And I’m not okay with that! Rather than settling for the status quo, I opted to make something I could use every day. When people asked if they could buy my prototypes off me, I knew I had to commit & do this on a large scale!
What is your favorite part about what you do?
There’s nothing more rewarding than having a customer reach out & tell me how CuffedUp changed the way they dress by allowing them to get more out of their wardrobe. Knowing I could bring my vision to life and impact others is a special opportunity not many people have the chance to experience. And I’m so thankful!
What should we expect in the future?
Collabs & events! We’ve done events with J.Crew & Theory and have a lot more in the pipeline. We’re also working on making custom versions for our favorite brands, so expect to see CuffedUp in more colors & patterns!
