With the runways looking like a sexed-up training camp, we wanted to incorporate a little military green into our summer wardrobe.
Finding the perfect cargo jacket took some work and guess where we found it: the mens department of Urban Outfitters. This exact one is only available in stores but if you want a more frugal find, stop by your local army navy store.
In buying a jacket like this, make sure there is a collar- not stand-up tabs. Collars are WAY more youthful and allow for more of a styled look. Also, pick an unlined version as the heavy weight is too hot for the summer months.
For under the jacket, you will need a long silky blouse. We found our IRO cream top at Cabana in Dallas so you can call owner, Merry Vose, and have one shipped over. Here, the length is important because you want the blouse to hang below the jacket.
If you are leery of a jacket in the summer, try belting this Equipment Signature Sleeveless Blouse top from shopbop.com instead. It is on SALE now for $117 and a TOTAL WARDROBE BUILDER and a frugal find.
Our 3.1 Phillip Lim leather shorts from seasons past barely show out the bottom so while leather is preferable, you can always substitute for a pair of black shorts. If you are looking for leather (always more fun), we suggest this pair of Rock and Republic shorts available online at Bergdorf Goodman. Otherwise, ZARA has a pair for under $100 or this 5-pocket twill short from Forever 21 (only $7.50!!!) will be a fine substitute.
VENZedits Tip: In the fall, swap out your leather shorts for leather pants for an on-trend transition look.
With so many solids, this look needed a print.
