Look of the Day

INSPIRATION: MARANT

Lately most of my inspiration has come from Isabel Marant. I wear her tribal jeans like a loyal follower and have been drawn to the simple detail for a while now.

Speaking of Parisians, IRO is one of my favorite French designers (see my other notes about IRO here) and I purchased these tweed IRO shorts at Glassworks Studios in London (they ship all over the world).

As for the details: I found this inexpensive beaded belt at Urban Outfitters and it provides cohesion for this look. I wear my black booties on a daily basis- with shorts, dresses, leather pants- everything. My new Helmut Lang Ankou bag has become a daily accessory as well.

TWINKLE TOES

Today I am headed to Australia and I am so excited to bring my new outfit- it is very Prabal meets Miu Miu. If you have a graduation or wedding coming up, this is a chic yet frugal look to use.

FROM THE BLOGS: AMSTERDAM

For the past few days I have been working in Amsterdam so I wanted to feature my favorite Dutch (well, actually Mexican) blogger: Andy Torres.

I saw her in these shorts and the leopard-drenched Michael Kors runway show at about the same time and I have been searching for the perfect pair ever since.

TODAY: HM CONSCIOUS

I could see this dress in the window at H&M from a distance and at first I thought it was one of those “green” dresses made out of paper. I told my friend, if that is real, I am buying it.

I did.

It is Crillon Ball worthy.

FOUND: ELLA

Yesterday (Easter), Ella (our dog) went missing for about seven hours. My brother and I put up 80+ signs and thankfully, our neighbors found and brought her home safely. I am so thankful that she was lost in a “dog-friendly” neighborhood. Thank you, Mr. & Mrs. X!

CONTINUING THE TREND: MONOCHROME

This is part two of a three part series.

Last week I wore this top/ blazer combination with a cream leather disc mini. Today I created a more casual version of the monochrome look with jacquard shorts.

Two lessons to learn:

1. Monochrome works best with mixed textures.

2. If you wear a solid look, add a printed accessory.

Anytime you go with solids you need to add a texture or a print. My shorts, top and blazer layer well because of the varying prints; since my pony hair, leopard platforms are so far away from all of the texture, they work and add some depth to an otherwise too-airy look.

What I wore: Zara Blazer, Zara Top, Zara Shorts, Steve Madden Platforms, Celine Bag

WHITE OUT

This season I invested in a series of cream and neutral garments of varying textures- they all layer very well together.

IN THE TRENCHES

This look goes from work to cocktails to the Mavs game; it is perfect for travel because it is venue-agnostic, chic for all occasions.

The reason it works: mixing textures. My cotton trench dress (thanks, Mom) is a nice contrast to the snakeskin booties and patent bag. This theory works in your wardrobe and in your home- just remember, texture.

HANGING WITH JACK AND LAZ

Last Thursday, the night before New York Fashion Week started, I attended a private party for the top 25 fashion bloggers in the world (it was so crazy to have all of them in one room at one time. Jane said it was probably the biggest blogger meet up of all time- and it was).

I now have a new answer for what was is your coolest experience in fashion? Interning for Thakoon is certainly high on the list, but my new answer: I got to hang out with Jack and Laz the night before fashion week!
