HERMES + HISMES

By now, you probably know that I have no reservations about buying second hand items- especially when it comes to watches and jewelry.

While creating my Valentine’s Day wish list, I came across these gold Hermes wedding bands. One is a size 6.5 (hers) and the other is a size 10 (his). They are sold separately and definitely do not have to be worn as wedding rings. In fact, I would not suggest that since apparently it did not go well for the previous couple…

They are 63% off retail and have been authenticated. Wouldn’t one of these be a lovely Valentine’s Day present (maybe even to yourself)?

FRUGAL FRIDAY: LANVIN

Whoever said that a shark’s tooth necklace couldn’t be elegant didn’t bet with the genius of Alber Elbaz.

This piece has been on my “to buy” list since it walked the Lanvin runway last March. Being the frugal shopper that I tend to be, I have stalked it until final markdown. From now until Tuesday (Feb. 1!) you can get an extra 20% off of the SALE price on this baby. It adds a bit of rich to your look.

TREND, SCHMEND; CAPES ARE FOR KEEPS.

I know that your first thought when looking at this picture is, “someone please take the straightener away from that girl!” But try to focus on the cape.

Yes, “capes” were a big fall 2010 trend, but when are they not a trend? To me, this Chloe cape, which is on SALE for 50% off, looks like a $2500 garment from Ralph Lauren. You can tell by the way it lays that this piece is very well made.

OBSESSED IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH

I am newly OBSESSED with mixed prints. DVF guided me into this infatuation with her most recent Resort collection and now I feel like my mother, “Don’t leave the store until you have the whole outfit- all of the pieces!”

The key to mixing prints successfully is getting the entire look from one designer. It is hard to mix Oscar Ikat with Madison Marcus Ikat- the color ways will undoubtedly clash- a word that we want to avoid in the execution of this trend.

DIY: DENIM SHORTS

I keep a running “to buy” list in my notebook- as I see holes in my wardrobe, items are added to the list. One lingering piece has been “oversized distressed jean shorts.”

There are two ways to go about acquiring the perfect pair of jean shorts: DIY or buy them pre-made. Believe it or not, the latter sometimes takes longer than doing it yourself. (If you prefer arts and crafts, your instructions are above.)

Having gone to school in Texas, I have a lot of insanely beautiful girlfriends who continue to teach me how to keep my hair and skin looking glamourous. I know just as much about Sephora as I do Nascar so I wouldn’t be able to keep up without them.

Perk: ULTA just announced their online 20% off everything SALE and all of these products are included!

GETAWAY: WHAT SHE PACKED

This past weekend I styled and packed a client for a girl’s Mexican getaway and I have to share some of her looks with you.

I have never just loved DvF. Yes, the woman is an icon, but her collections have been far from iconic for several years. However, this season Diane did it big. Her runway was a little DvF and a lot Prada and my inspiration board is filled with clips from her runway.

Packed for Day 1: We went straight runway with the Skylar jumper and matching visor. As hard as we all work to keep our skin in pristine condition, a hat is a must in the Mexican sun. This one is only $45 and it takes the look to another level.

THE SECRET PASSWORD: MAGDA BERLINER

[FLOWPLAYER=http://venzedits.com/wp-content/uploads/Magda-Berliner-Interview.flv,640,360]

I first saw Berliner’s work at age 15 when Ashley Olsen donned one of her handmade garments after an MTV interview. This was around the same time that MK (and I) came out with red hair and when the Olsen twins announced that they were no longer “the Olsen twins.”

Years have passed but the picture of Ashley in that Berliner dress has remained on my inspiration board (aka: my to buy list).

Last month, Jackie from V.O.D. invited me in to meet Magda Berliner and I had the privilege of spending some time with the designer and getting a custom fit piece.

Watch. Her individuality is beyond trends.
