FRUGAL FRIDAY: TAVI TUNIC

I have stalked this top since it appeared online several months ago. Now, with the Shopbop fall SALE, it is just $42!

Did you just giggle? I did…

This is the perfect top to tuck into your shorts, skirts or high-waisted pants.

I can’t get enough of those drapey arm openings. Its all in the details.

CHANNELING: ANNA CHAPMAN

This look may not be Maxim worthy, but the Nanette Lepore Madam Spy shift dress would be good for the the flame-haired Russian spy (or any Hepburn girl).

I see this look walking down the steps of the New York Metropolitan Opera with a pair of Costume National elbow gloves and finger twist curls. Maybe with a pair of Olivia Palermo- inspired retro sunnies by day.

A PONCHO AND A CAR ON YOUR ARM

During backstage fittings for the Neiman Marcus style competition on Fashion’s Night Out, I snapped this picture of one of my models, Marisol (my apologies for the quality- I am still rocking the iPhone 3G).

Neimans identified eight trends for fall and this was my entry for the “Trend 6: Capes & Ponchos” contest.

HHN by Haute Hippie has the best cape of the season, in my opinion. The dress-length hem makes this piece super flattering and extremely versatile and the ribbed zip pockets in front are big enough for my cell and credit cards.

However, say you did want to carry a bag…I accessorized Marisol in this NM special edition chocolate Gucci croc hobo. Price tag: $24,000. This is what a car would look like on your arm.

PEEK-A-BOO

Speaking of up to there…

This dress is (in a strange way) a total wardrobe basic. Every woman needs a solid, maxi, halter, up-to-there dress. They walk the red carpet all the time and this season you need to bring it to reality. After all, the price is right.

Have you seen the back? Lets just say it is exposed.

THE THOUGHTFUL GIFTER

Nothing says “I didn’t buy this present on the way over” quite like a monogrammed ring or necklace.

(Feel free to forward this to your men)

I love the way Jennifer Zeuner makes monograms less preppy, less Lily Pulitzer.

This gift is good for girls of all ages and styles-Lauren Conrad sports her initial signet ring at all of her book signings and Whitney Port rocks the gold diamond initial necklace with her bikini.

Order today because delivery takes 3-5 weeks and the holidays are in less than nine!

LEATHER + LACE

First, let me say that I generally hate lace. It reminds me of the early ’90s, pale skin and deep purple lipstick.

But, when Stella McCartney’s lace and organza mini dresses walked the Fall 2010 runway, I had to have one so I went on the hunt for an affordable version. Some store had to be inspired, right?

BCBG caught on and I found my lace sheath dress (for nowhere near the $1400 price tag hanging from the Stella I covet).

ORNITHOLOGY

I first fell in love with bird prints with my new Winter Kate kimono top. Then, I saw Judy Aldridge rocking an ave print over her shoulders in Paris and now this adorable wool scarf by Madewell has caught my attention.

This accessory looks like the $200 wraps that are piled up at the Barneys Co-op counter, only this one is on SALE for $35 and it shipts for free! A perfect holiday gift for a girl you love.

HOLE IN ONE

Want to play putt-putt? Step into my backyard.

There are all sorts of novelties in Paula’s historic Dallas home- this one being my favorite.

Her lean physique is just the right frame for this Sartel dress that she found at VOD in Dallas’ Victory Park. I love the way she dressed it down with Lanvin flats for meetings and then pumped it up with Marc Jacobs lizzard heels for a local fashion editor’s wedding last weekend.

With fashionable soirees and fall weddings to attend, you are going to need a fabulous garment to stand out. Sometimes, in order to stand apart or be noticed, a girl must go to her vintage-inspired wardrobe and then accessorize it well.

A NEW SLEEVE

It is gift buying season and I have been on the hunt for the chicest gifts for you and your family.

Laptop cases are traditionally as tragic as camera cases and nothing ruins the inside of a designer tote like an ugly computer case.

I suggest this Kena Kai felt laptop sleeve. It is sleek and chic and it ships for free!
