FRUGAL FRIDAY: in your clutches

You never want to wait for the day of an event to find a clutch- I suggest collecting these as you find and fall in love with thim.

The Ingra Pel Cipres Clutch is just the right price (less than $100) and yet still a unique style and quality build. The retro hard case and envelope shape can be girly or modern.

The best part: if your drink spills, no harm no foul. Your cell will be nicely protected inside.

I DIE

I actually gasped when a picture of this Opening Ceremony fur coat arrived in my inbox.

INSANE!

CHANNELING: whitney port

Austin City Limits is less than one month away and it is time to start planning your outfits (because we all know that once you get there, there will be no planning of any kind…).

Whitney Port rocked a retro look at Coachella this year and her clean simple vibe turned heads- fashion met hippie and she did it well.

BEST OF: jenni kayne

Maybe it is because she launched her eponymous collection at the tender age of 19, or because fur for everyday is one of the signature concepts that exemplify designer Jenni Kayne, but I have fallen in love.

This look is my favorite from her fall runway show- a sort of Bottega monochromatic aesthetic that will no doubt turn heads. These hues are rich.

ASK AMBER ANSWERS: wish list

Many of you have asked me for a list of pieces that you MUST have for the new season. If I were to write one article for the entire season, this would be it. No fluf, no extravagant items, just a SERIOUSLY PERFECT list. You are welcome.

Hi Amber!

Im needing fashion advice out here in Virginia.  My birthday is coming up and for the first time in my life I don’t have a wish list!

I need some advice on what to ask for but here is a general list of things I need:

1. Long gold necklace/chain (around $150)
2. New watch (around $250)
3. Everyday purse/bag (around $250)

Anything else you think is critical to get/own for this season?

Thank you sooooo much for your advice- I ADORE your website and have all my friends here checking you out :-)

Best,

Meredith H., Virginia

A: Meredith,

Here are my suggestions for your birthday wish list, plus a few more season staples:

TUESDAYS WITH SARAH

I mentioned last week how this GOTM builds her look from the basics.

You should be able to achieve this look from your current wardrobe; but if you cant, here are my frugal suggestions:

Sarah’s Alice + Olivia leggings are slimming and a total wardrobe staple (hint hint: you should definitely have these or a similar pair- cant make it through fall without them).

TIS THE SEASON?

It is never too soon to stock up on holiday gifts- especially when you find a great piece at a deep discount.

I love the Gracie modern pearl necklace by Banana Republic because it looks like something that would be in the Barneys jewelry case or on the Lanvin runway.

Just picture this necklace on a chic black dress…wow.

It is already on SALE for $29 and today only you can get an extra 25% off of SALE merchandise with code: BRGIFT!

Ho! Ho! Ho!

ARM CANDY

It has been 10 years since the Balencaiga motorcycle bag first burst onto the scene and took its place on the arm of every fashion savvy girl in town.

(For the first time, I feel old).

I guess 10 years is enough time for Nicole Richie to collect 16+ of the iconic bag (as seen on her arms in the above collage).

BASIC TRAINING

Today I am offering some basic advise for your wardrobe. The lesson: using quality basics to achieve the season’s top trends. Being trendy without being trendy.

First, lets build out from a well made basic. You always need to have a beautiful, architectural yet simple cream dress and top in your wardrobe. It will work as both a layer and a canvas. I suggest the Theory Giorgina dress not only because it is on sale but also because it is season-less and flattering.

DID MJ COPYCAT FOR LV?

My most insane pair of heels for fall came from this Lanvin collection from FW 2009. The crazy part: Louis Vuitton copied the mirrored heel this season and ran with the bow look big time on the runway.

Was Marc inspired? Looks like it.

Luckily for you, the last-season Lanvin collection just landed at theoutnet and this pair of Bow-front satin pumps is 50% off!
